{"id":2714,"date":"2026-09-20T15:42:02","date_gmt":"2026-09-20T13:42:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.molongui.com\/help\/?p=2714"},"modified":"2026-10-08T21:13:04","modified_gmt":"2026-10-08T19:13:04","slug":"how-to-disable-gravatar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.molongui.com\/help\/how-to-disable-gravatar\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Disable Gravatar"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Molongui Authorship lets you disable Gravatar completely as an author avatar source.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This can be useful if you prefer to use locally hosted avatars, want to avoid external Gravatar requests, or simply do not want author avatars to depend on an email-based service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Disable Gravatar<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to <strong>Molongui Authorship > Settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Open the <strong>General<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Find the <strong>Author Avatar Settings<\/strong> section.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Disable <strong>Use Gravatar for author avatars<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Save the settings.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Gravatar is now removed from Molongui Authorship&#8217;s avatar resolution process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What happens to existing Gravatars?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Disabling Gravatar does not delete or modify any Gravatar associated with an author&#8217;s email address. It simply prevents Molongui Authorship from using Gravatar as an avatar source.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If an author has a Local Avatar and Local Author Avatars are enabled, the Local Avatar will be displayed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If no Local Avatar is available, Molongui Authorship will move to the next available fallback according to your settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Using a Custom Default Avatar instead<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want authors without a Local Avatar to display a consistent image, enable <strong>Use a custom default avatar<\/strong> and select your preferred image.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With Gravatar disabled, the typical avatar priority becomes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Local Avatar \u2192 Custom Default Avatar<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This setup keeps author avatars entirely under your control and does not require authors to have a Gravatar account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What if the Custom Default Avatar is also disabled?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If both Gravatar and the Custom Default Avatar are disabled, Molongui Authorship can only use a Local Avatar when Local Author Avatars are enabled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An author without an available Local Avatar will have no avatar displayed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Does the WordPress Default Avatar still apply?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>No. The Default Avatar configured under <strong>WordPress Settings &gt; Discussion<\/strong> is part of the normal WordPress\/Gravatar avatar flow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When Gravatar is disabled in Molongui Authorship, that fallback is not used for Molongui author avatars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Can I enable Gravatar again later?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes. Return to <strong>Molongui Authorship &gt; Settings &gt; General<\/strong>, enable <strong>Use Gravatar for author avatars<\/strong>, and save the settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Molongui Authorship will then include Gravatar in the avatar resolution process again.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Molongui Authorship lets you disable Gravatar completely as an author avatar source.
