{"id":2724,"date":"2026-09-20T15:50:09","date_gmt":"2026-09-20T13:50:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.molongui.com\/help\/?p=2724"},"modified":"2026-10-08T21:14:07","modified_gmt":"2026-10-08T19:14:07","slug":"how-to-use-wordpress-default-avatar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.molongui.com\/help\/how-to-use-wordpress-default-avatar\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Use WordPress&#8217; Default Avatar"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Molongui Authorship can use the Default Avatar configured in WordPress when an author does not have a Gravatar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is useful if you prefer to rely on WordPress&#8217; built-in avatar fallback instead of configuring a separate Custom Default Avatar in Molongui Authorship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Configure WordPress&#8217; Default Avatar<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to <strong>WordPress Dashboard > Settings > Discussion<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scroll down to the <strong>Avatars<\/strong> section.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Under <strong>Default Avatar<\/strong>, select the avatar you want WordPress to use.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Save Changes<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Configure Molongui Authorship<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to <strong>Authors > Settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Open the <strong>General<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Find the <strong>Author Avatar Settings<\/strong> section.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enable <strong>Use Gravatar for author avatars<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Disable <strong>Use a custom default avatar<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Save the settings.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>With this configuration, WordPress&#8217; Default Avatar can be used when an author has an email address but no Gravatar associated with it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How the avatar priority works<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If Local Author Avatars are also enabled, the usual priority becomes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Local Avatar \u2192 Gravatar \u2192 WordPress Default Avatar<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If Local Author Avatars are disabled, the priority becomes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Gravatar \u2192 WordPress Default Avatar<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What if the author has no email address?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Gravatar requires a valid email address.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If an author has no email address, Molongui Authorship skips Gravatar entirely. In that case, the WordPress Default Avatar is not used through the Gravatar fallback flow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want authors without an email address to always display a fallback image, use Molongui Authorship&#8217;s <strong>Custom Default Avatar<\/strong> instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What if Gravatar is disabled?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If <strong>Use Gravatar for author avatars<\/strong> is disabled under <strong>Authors &gt; Settings<\/strong>, Molongui Authorship does not use the WordPress Default Avatar as part of the Gravatar flow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In that case, the plugin will use another enabled avatar source, such as a Local Avatar or the Custom Default Avatar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">WordPress Default Avatar vs. Custom Default Avatar<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>These are two different fallback mechanisms:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>WordPress Default Avatar<\/strong> is configured under <strong>Settings > Discussion<\/strong> and is used as part of the normal Gravatar flow.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Custom Default Avatar<\/strong> is configured under <strong>Authors > Settings<\/strong> and lets you upload your own fallback image.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you enable the Custom Default Avatar in Molongui Authorship, it takes precedence over the WordPress Default Avatar in the normal Molongui avatar fallback flow.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Molongui Authorship can use the Default Avatar configured in WordPress when an author does not have a Gravatar.
