{"id":2766,"date":"2026-09-20T16:32:12","date_gmt":"2026-09-20T14:32:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.molongui.com\/help\/?p=2766"},"modified":"2026-09-20T16:32:13","modified_gmt":"2026-09-20T14:32:13","slug":"why-does-my-author-avatar-change-after-i-disable-gravatar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.molongui.com\/help\/why-does-my-author-avatar-change-after-i-disable-gravatar\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Does My Author Avatar Change After I Disable Gravatar?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>If an author&#8217;s avatar changes after you disable Gravatar, that is expected behavior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Disabling Gravatar removes it from Molongui Authorship&#8217;s avatar resolution process, so the plugin automatically uses the next available avatar source.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What changes when Gravatar is disabled?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>With Gravatar enabled, the standard avatar priority may look like this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Local Avatar \u2192 Gravatar \u2192 Custom Default Avatar<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After disabling Gravatar, the priority becomes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Local Avatar \u2192 Custom Default Avatar<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If no Local Avatar is available, the Custom Default Avatar can be displayed instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why did my Gravatar disappear?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When <strong>Use Gravatar for author avatars<\/strong> is disabled, Molongui Authorship stops using Gravatar for author avatars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This applies to both WordPress Users and Guest Authors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Gravatar itself is not deleted. Molongui Authorship simply stops requesting and displaying it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why am I seeing my Custom Default Avatar instead?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If <strong>Use a custom default avatar<\/strong> is enabled, Molongui Authorship uses that image when no higher-priority avatar is available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For an author without a Local Avatar, the result is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Custom Default Avatar<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why is no avatar displayed?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If the author has no Local Avatar and the Custom Default Avatar is also disabled, there may be no remaining avatar source.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Local Avatar: Disabled or unavailable<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gravatar: Disabled<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Custom Default Avatar: Disabled<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In that situation, no avatar is displayed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What happens to the WordPress Default Avatar?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The WordPress Default Avatar is part of the normal WordPress\/Gravatar avatar flow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When Gravatar is disabled in Molongui Authorship, Molongui author avatars do not use the WordPress Default Avatar through that flow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want a fallback image without using Gravatar, configure a Custom Default Avatar instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to change the fallback after disabling Gravatar<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want authors without a Local Avatar to display a consistent fallback image:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to <strong>Authors > Settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Open the <strong>General<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make sure <strong>Use a custom default avatar<\/strong> is enabled.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the image you want to use.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Save the settings.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Your avatar flow will then be:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Local Avatar \u2192 Custom Default Avatar<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Can I restore the previous Gravatar?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Go to <strong>Authors &gt; Settings &gt; General<\/strong>, enable <strong>Use Gravatar for author avatars<\/strong>, and save the settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the author&#8217;s email address is associated with a Gravatar and no higher-priority Local Avatar is being used, the Gravatar can be displayed again.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If an author&#8217;s avatar changes after you disable Gravatar, that is expected behavior.
