{"id":2770,"date":"2026-09-20T16:41:17","date_gmt":"2026-09-20T14:41:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.molongui.com\/help\/?p=2770"},"modified":"2026-10-08T21:12:01","modified_gmt":"2026-10-08T19:12:01","slug":"author-avatar-priority-and-fallback-examples","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.molongui.com\/help\/author-avatar-priority-and-fallback-examples\/","title":{"rendered":"Author Avatar Priority and Fallback Examples"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Molongui Authorship can use several avatar sources and automatically fall back from one to another depending on your settings and the information available for each author.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This guide provides practical examples of the most common avatar configurations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">All avatar options enabled<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If Local Avatars, Gravatar, and the Custom Default Avatar are all enabled, the standard priority is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Local Avatar \u2192 Gravatar \u2192 Custom Default Avatar<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Examples:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If the author has a Local Avatar, it is displayed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If there is no Local Avatar but the author has a Gravatar, the Gravatar is displayed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If there is no Local Avatar and no Gravatar, the Custom Default Avatar is displayed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Local Avatars disabled<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If Local Avatars are disabled but Gravatar and the Custom Default Avatar remain enabled:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Gravatar \u2192 Custom Default Avatar<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Examples:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If the author has a Gravatar, it is displayed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If no Gravatar is available, the Custom Default Avatar is displayed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gravatar disabled<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If Gravatar is disabled while Local Avatars and the Custom Default Avatar remain enabled:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Local Avatar \u2192 Custom Default Avatar<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Examples:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If the author has a Local Avatar, it is displayed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If no Local Avatar is available, the Custom Default Avatar is displayed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>No Gravatar request is required in this configuration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Only the Custom Default Avatar enabled<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If both Local Avatars and Gravatar are disabled:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Custom Default Avatar<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Every author without another explicitly configured display mode will use the same Custom Default Avatar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Only Local Avatars enabled<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If Local Avatars are enabled and both Gravatar and the Custom Default Avatar are disabled:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Local Avatar \u2192 No Avatar<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authors with a Local Avatar display it. Authors without one display no avatar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gravatar enabled without a Custom Default Avatar<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If Gravatar is enabled but the Custom Default Avatar is disabled, the WordPress Default Avatar can be used when no Gravatar is available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With Local Avatars enabled:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Local Avatar \u2192 Gravatar \u2192 WordPress Default Avatar<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With Local Avatars disabled:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Gravatar \u2192 WordPress Default Avatar<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The WordPress Default Avatar is configured under <strong>Settings &gt; Discussion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">All avatar options disabled<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If Local Avatars, Gravatar, and the Custom Default Avatar are all disabled:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>No Avatar<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Molongui Authorship has no enabled image source to display.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Author without an email address<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Gravatar requires a valid email address.
