Molongui Authorship lets you disable locally uploaded author avatars globally.
This is useful if you want your site to rely on Gravatar, default avatars, or another avatar source instead of profile pictures uploaded directly to author profiles.
Disable Local Author Avatars
- Go to Authors > Settings.
- Open the General tab.
- Find the Author Avatar Settings section.
- Disable Use local author avatars.
- Save the settings.
Local Avatars are now removed from Molongui Authorship’s avatar resolution process.
What happens to existing Local Avatars?
Disabling Local Author Avatars does not delete the images already assigned to your authors.
The images remain associated with their author profiles, but Molongui Authorship will stop using them while the setting is disabled.
If you enable Local Author Avatars again later, those existing Local Avatars can be used again.
What avatar is used instead?
When Local Author Avatars are disabled, Molongui Authorship moves to the next available avatar source.
If Gravatar and the Custom Default Avatar are enabled, the usual priority becomes:
Gravatar → Custom Default Avatar
If the author has no Gravatar, the Custom Default Avatar will be displayed.
What happens if the Custom Default Avatar is disabled?
If Gravatar is enabled but the Custom Default Avatar is disabled, WordPress can use the Default Avatar configured under Settings > Discussion when the author does not have a Gravatar.
What happens if Gravatar is also disabled?
If both Local Author Avatars and Gravatar are disabled, Molongui Authorship can only use the Custom Default Avatar if it is enabled.
If the Custom Default Avatar is also disabled, no avatar will be displayed.
Can I enable Local Avatars again later?
Yes. Return to Molongui Authorship > Settings > General, enable Use local author avatars, and save the settings.
Any Local Avatars previously assigned to your authors will become available again.
