Can Users and Guest Authors Use Gravatar?

Molongui » Help » Molongui Authorship Docs » Can Users and Guest Authors Use Gravatar?

Yes. Both registered WordPress Users and Molongui Guest Authors can use Gravatar.

Gravatar works by matching an avatar to the email address stored in the author profile.

Using Gravatar for WordPress Users

For a registered WordPress User, Molongui Authorship uses the email address configured in the user’s account.

To check it:

  1. Go to Users > All Users.
  2. Edit the user.
  3. Open the User Account tab.
  4. Check the user’s email address.

If that email address is associated with a Gravatar account, Molongui Authorship can display the corresponding Gravatar when Gravatar is enabled.

Using Gravatar for Guest Authors

Guest Authors can use Gravatar in the same way.

  1. Open the Guest Authors screen.
  2. Edit the Guest Author.
  3. Check the email address configured in the author profile.
  4. Save any changes.

If the email address is associated with a Gravatar account, that Gravatar can be used for the Guest Author.

Make sure Gravatar is enabled

  1. Go to Authors > Settings.
  2. Open the General tab.
  3. Find the Author Avatar Settings section.
  4. Make sure Use Gravatar for author avatars is enabled.
  5. Save the settings.

What if the author also has a Local Avatar?

If Local Avatars are enabled and the author has one configured, the Local Avatar normally takes priority over Gravatar.

With all standard avatar options enabled, the usual priority is:

Local Avatar → Gravatar → Custom Default Avatar

What if there is no Gravatar for the email address?

If no Gravatar is associated with the author’s email address, Molongui Authorship moves to the next available fallback.

If a Custom Default Avatar is enabled, that image can be displayed.

If the Custom Default Avatar is disabled, WordPress can use its configured Default Avatar as part of the normal Gravatar flow.

What if the author has no email address?

If there is no valid email address, Molongui Authorship skips Gravatar automatically.

The plugin then continues with the remaining available avatar sources, such as a Local Avatar or the Custom Default Avatar.

Does disabling Gravatar affect both author types?

Yes.

The Use Gravatar for author avatars setting is global. If you disable it, Molongui Authorship stops using Gravatar for both WordPress Users and Guest Authors.
