Molongui Authorship lets you disable Gravatar completely as an author avatar source.
This can be useful if you prefer to use locally hosted avatars, want to avoid external Gravatar requests, or simply do not want author avatars to depend on an email-based service.
Disable Gravatar
- Go to Molongui Authorship > Settings.
- Open the General tab.
- Find the Author Avatar Settings section.
- Disable Use Gravatar for author avatars.
- Save the settings.
Gravatar is now removed from Molongui Authorship’s avatar resolution process.
What happens to existing Gravatars?
Disabling Gravatar does not delete or modify any Gravatar associated with an author’s email address. It simply prevents Molongui Authorship from using Gravatar as an avatar source.
If an author has a Local Avatar and Local Author Avatars are enabled, the Local Avatar will be displayed.
If no Local Avatar is available, Molongui Authorship will move to the next available fallback according to your settings.
Using a Custom Default Avatar instead
If you want authors without a Local Avatar to display a consistent image, enable Use a custom default avatar and select your preferred image.
With Gravatar disabled, the typical avatar priority becomes:
Local Avatar → Custom Default Avatar
This setup keeps author avatars entirely under your control and does not require authors to have a Gravatar account.
What if the Custom Default Avatar is also disabled?
If both Gravatar and the Custom Default Avatar are disabled, Molongui Authorship can only use a Local Avatar when Local Author Avatars are enabled.
An author without an available Local Avatar will have no avatar displayed.
Does the WordPress Default Avatar still apply?
No. The Default Avatar configured under WordPress Settings > Discussion is part of the normal WordPress/Gravatar avatar flow.
When Gravatar is disabled in Molongui Authorship, that fallback is not used for Molongui author avatars.
Can I enable Gravatar again later?
Yes. Return to Molongui Authorship > Settings > General, enable Use Gravatar for author avatars, and save the settings.
Molongui Authorship will then include Gravatar in the avatar resolution process again.
